Sandy Smith is currently the resident Professional at Ladybank Golf Club, and formerly the Head Professional at The Gleneagles Hotel. Sandy has a passion for golf and the expertise to instantly improve his clients ability to play this great game.
Sandy has worked with and alongside some of the best players and coaches in the world. These include, David Leadbetter, Pete Cowan, Denis Pugh, Nick Faldo, Gary Player, Steve Elkington and many more. Sandy Smith is an industry leader in the field of golf coaching.
Ensuring the clients needs are met in each session is at the forefront of Sandy's approach. He delivers individual, tailor-made sessions with the long-term in mind; therefore the client aims for a lasting solution instead of a quick fix. All Sandy's coaching is based around the flight of the golf ball and how to improve it, resulting in instant progress. A holistic coaching approach is used to achieve this.
Sandy was the first Golf Professional in Scotland to involve the Internet in golf coaching by setting up www.internetgolfacademy.com in conjunction with V1 Interactive frontiers. This was a new initiative. The first of it’s kind in Scotland. It offered Gleneagles the opportunity to catch a truly global market.
Sandy has coached and continues to coach many County Team Players, International Players and several Professional Golfers playing on various different tours.
Sandy is married to his wife Andrea and has two children called Hannah and Matthew.
Achievements
- Achieved the prestigious `Director of Golf ` Diploma from the P.G.A in December 2008. The 5th person in GB&I to achieve this Internationally acclaimed award.
- `Training consultant` on the golf swing to the P.G.A Training Academy at The Belfry.
- Qualified Sports Practitioner in N.L.P. (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
- Former coach to Roseanne Niven and Findlay White who established a World Record by becoming the Club Champions (Gents & Ladies in the same year) at Crieff Golf Club at the ages of 13 and 14 respectively.
- Senior coach to Perth & Kinross county elite squads (boys and men) 1999- 2003. In 2001 the men’s squad won the Scottish Team Championship for the first time in their history. They subsequently defended it in 2002.
- Head Professional at The Gleneagles Hotel 2000-04.
- Senior Coach at The Fancourt resort and Country Club in South Africa 1994
- Qualified as a SportScotland coach and involved in the tutoring of the ClubGolf initiative in Scotland. This iniative is supported by the S.G.U, P.G.A, S.L.G.A, Scottish Executive and SportScotland.
