Club Custom Fitting

Providing you with the true custom fit experience

Sandy Smith Golf - Custom Club Fitting

The golf clubs displayed in our Pro Shop are built to individual Company's standard specifications. If the client doesn't fit those specs, the equipment won't fit the client. without a proper custom fit a golfer has very little chance of achieving their best performance. it is necessary for every level of golfer to get a custom club fit before investing in new equipment. One of our highly trained and skilled members of staff will assist you during this process enabling you to make an informed decision before making a golf club investment. And the great news is - It is FREE when you buy equipment from us.

We will test the following 10 interrelated variables during a custom fitting session: head type; loft; shaft length; lie angle; shaft flex; shaft type; grip size; golf club head design; set make up and grip type / size.

Head Type: Now players have the opportunity to get offset, draw and fade head along with the possibility of changing the weights in the head itself. This encourages the head to be in a neutral/squarer position at impact reducing any slice or hook spin applied to the ball due to certain swing characteristics.

Club Loft: The rule is: the more loft on the club the more backspin is generated. Backspin helps to get the ball in the air and to help it fly straight, by swamping any side spin on the ball. So if you have a nasty slice or hook, adding loft can be a great way to fix the issue. If however you are quite a straight hitter but hit the ball to high and not far enough by taking some loft off the club you will reduce backspin levels producing greater distance.

Clubhead Design: MOI (moment of inertia) has become a big consideration, particularly with higher handicappers. When shots are struck outside the sweet spot, a clubhead with a high MOI reduces twisting at impact, delivering shots closer to the target area.

Shaft length: Shaft length will, among other things, impact where on the clubface the ball is consistently struck. The correct shaft length will prevent a golfer from having to alter a natural swing arc in order to make optimal impact. It will also allow the golfer to adopt the correct natural set up position at address.

Lie Angle: This is the angle formed by the shaft and sole straight flight of the club. Having a correct lie angle allows the sole of the clubhead to be flush with the ground at impact. If the toe of the clubhead is raised, a hooking shot may result. Should the heel be raised, a push or slice may result.

Shaft Flex: The shaft flex impacts things such as trajectory, accuracy, distance and consistency. During the golf swing, the club bends, twists and bows due to the loading of the shaft with energy Swing speed, rhythm and tempo all affect how the shaft behaves and is therefore different for each and every golfer. An incorrect shaft flex significantly reduces the chance of making consistently solid contact.

Shaft Type: Here, again, personal characteristics make the decision. The composition of steel and graphite shafts, their kick (or bend) points, swing weights and torque ratings are all points for consideration.

Grip Type/Size: These two areas are very personal and need to be decided by the individual. The type of grip you play may be decided by the amount you play. People who don`t play much golf often prefer a softer grip, whilst the more regular player sometimes prefers a harsher surface to hold. The size of the grip itself comes very much down to a feeling of comfort. If you are happy with the feel and size of the grip you are more likely to play better golf.

Due to the number of variables and the complex way in which they relate to each other it is difficult, if not impossible for anyone aside from a Golf Professional to conduct a proper club fitting. Online golf retailers offer club fitting, but often all factors aren't considered, and the balls spin rate, initial trajectory and general flight most certainly isn't. At Sandy Smith Golf we give golfers personal attention. An initial interview and review of the above points through a planned session where the player will hit a minimum of 30 balls enables us to take everything into account Providing an informed decision as to the best equipment to suit your game.

We may use a Vector Pro launch monitor to measure: clubhead speeds, ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, carry distance and overall distance. Measuring these characteristics, along with others, will help us select the proper clubs for each golfer.

After a custom club fitting, golfers will feel confident that they have made a good, informed decision in their investment. The added confidence will enhance performance almost as much as the custom fitting itself.
